30A 10K Continues Tradition of Giving with 2015 Beneficiaries

30A 10K Runners - Avery Carter, Lindsey Vanatta Smith, Portia BaranowskiKick off the season of giving by giving back to others.

The 30A 10K race team is honored to continue our tradition of giving back to our local community. This year we are proud to be supporting three amazing beneficiaries for our Thanksgiving 10K and Fun Run.

The 30A10K, Nov. 25-26, is one of the largest running races in South Walton, Fl with an estimated 6,000 participants, vendors and volunteers joining together for two days of events culminating in the big race in Rosemary Beach on Thanksgiving Day.

This two-day event begins Wednesday, Nov. 25 at Watersound Origins where families and the public are invited to join in a fall celebration of games, music and food at the 30A 10K fall festival and race packet pick up day. Thursday, Nov. 26 rounds out the event with with a Thanksgiving Day 10K race and one mile fun run from Rosemary Beach down Scenic Highway 30A.

Race Director Karen Meadows has been thrilled with how fast the event has grown in its fourth year and become recognized as a signature event in the 30A community. “It’s such a thrill to hear the gun go off at the start and see everyone excited to be burning off some calories before enjoying their Thanksgiving Day meals all the while knowing that they are supporting local charities and giving back to their community which is what Thanksgiving Day is all about.”

This year all proceeds will go to benefit Anchorage Children’s Home, Shelter House and the Walton County Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. During the past three years, the 30A 10K has raised more than $100,000 for local charities and this year looks to be a banner year for the deserving organizations.

Charities are chosen based on their mission to support family and children’s health and well being; their proximity to South Walton; their current lack of funding; and their limitation of future funding sources.

For the second year in a row, the 30A 10K was awarded one of the highest honors for a road race. The Road Runners Club of America, the nation’s oldest and largest running club, has designated the 30A 10K to be the official RRCA state of Florida championship 10k race. This means that whomever wins the race overall and in certain age categories will be crowned the Florida State Championship 10K winner and will receive a one-of-a-kind RRCA medal.
